This was awesome! Wen with my brother & sister on a Saturday night & the line to wait to buy tickets was a bit long but we got fast pass tickets, so we went & relayed with a beer while we waited about 45 minutes, The set was so innovative & creative, the actors were awesome & it was about 25 minutes long, so I feel we got our money's worth. It was really creepy; some of the images were so disturbing they definitely stay with you! Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good scare!

Friday night I attended with a few friends. I have heard amazing reviews from everyone who has been there so I was extremely excited to go! I had been warned about the wait time so I knew what we were in for. Unlike the MANY other haunted houses I've been too you DON'T have to wait on a long line. You are given your ticket with a number and you are able to walk around, go to the bar or get food while you wait for your number to be placed on a board. It makes the wait very enjoyable. While your waiting it's nice to hear everyone that has come out already talking about how scared they were. Upon entering you are giving a background story. Keep in mind this is a theater that has been around for years so you are getting the best of the best when it comes to acting. It's not like most other haunted houses where they have 13 year old kids running it. The make up on the artist were beyond exceptional and the effects were unlike anything that I've ever seen. There was not a single part of the gateway playhouse that was unused! You walk outside, inside, in the attic, the basement and the theater, sometimes leaving you distorted about where you are. I normally don't get scared but I have to admit that myself and the group that I went with were scared. Be prepared to wait if you are going on a weekend that you WILL have a long wait, so sit at the bar, have a drink and enjoy till your ready to go in. It's well worth it!

last year was my first time coming to the playhouse, really downplaying what my expectations were considering it was a theatre. last year I left impressed, and this year even more so...from changing up the haunted path to extending the amount of time spend. it was completely opposite of "GENERIC" as others seem to be every yearr... A+ in my book!

I went to Gateway last year and then after going to a crummy one this year nearby... we ended up here for redemption and it was AWESOME!! The whole set up is awesome.. theres a snack shop if your hanging for a bit or if there is a wait.. There was just the right amount of monsters popping out at you, not like normal haunted houses where you see a person in costume and they follow you.. um yea like thats scary. These people actaully hide and scare you in here.. One guy we thought was a fake person,, he sat slouched so long and then boo!!! There was even a little kid who was scary. I loved every minute of it and I cant wait to go back.

I went to Gateway's Haunted House last year and it was AMAZING!!! I think that they abuse their actors because they were so freaking believable! It goes inside and outside up and down stairs. You have absolutely no idea where you are going because there are many twists and turns and it is very dark. To tell you the truth I didn't mind it being so dark because I didn't want the actors to see me... they did. My buddy was freaking out so bad (mind you we BOTH don't get scared... EVER) he was screaming so loud that when we got into the room with the body bags four of them moved on a pully system and cornered him and pushed him into a secret doorway. He went into a completely different room by himself which he found himself in a maze that had no doors to escape. A strobe light will go on for a second to only see someone following you with a chainsaw. When we got out he didn't come out of the regular exit and 15 minutes later then us. He was terrified when he came out and vomited in the parking lot. HA HA it was great. Amazing Haunted House. Worth the 1 1/2 wait.

My boyfriend and myself decided Halloween night that we would try out Gateway Playhouses' haunted house. OMG it was amazing. We had gone to the Darkside where I found myself laughing the entire time, not scared one bit. But Gateway scared us both. Talk about creepy. Between the set-up, costumes, makeup, and characters we truly enjoyed every minute. From inside the old theater, outside, back inside into the creepy prop attic, back outside, back inside to electricute someone and then the end. Unfortunately it was so good that we kind of dragged each other through the twists and turns, with the anticipation of what was going to happen next, or who was going to jump out at us. (The fear of the un-known). Definitely not for young kids. I can't wait till next year. Thank you to everyone involved in the Haunted house. You guys definitely scared us, and we had such a great time, we walked out with smiles on our faces, as did the people that came out after us.

This year I decided to try out a haunted house attraction for the first time and didn't expect much from it. However, we ended up leaving very satisfied. I enjoy watching horror movies for the thrill and "jump" factor and Gateway provided a lot of that. It's a 20-25 minute walk through that offers non-stop suspense along with one very good scare every other room. I don't want to spoil it too much, so I"ll just say there were very good themes along with a lot of suspense around every corner. We had a good time and it's worth the $18- especially if you go with individuals that scare easily, the expressions are priceless.

Saturday is by far the best, all the actors are more hyped up and it is such a great time especially to be with people that are easily scared. The wait is rather long but if you go in with a positive attitude you will love it, if not..well then you write the crappy reviews like some people, but that's their problem. Massive props to whoever built the set and the story behind things. It isn't your average "boo" type of show, each actor portrays a character with a few boo tactics here and there. I don't want to give things away...but heads up for people that climb, fall, and run...they're all over and nothing is too expected, best yet, LOVED IT!

I just got back from the haunt and I had to run and write my review. HOLY SUGAR SMACKS!!! That was great stuff! I could not believe all the fantastic aunthentic props that made up this house and it was such a pleasure to see the haunt was not littered in Party City props. Here were my personal favorites: 1: There was a kid that fell out a refrigerator and appeared to be frozen but the fear he displayed in his eyes is what creeped me out . Good Job Mr. Actor! 2: There was a young woman in the pallet zone outside that I remember telling her she was the best haunter yet. She said nothing but breathed heavily. It looked like she had a grey sack over her head. Scary! 3: The guy in the electric chair on tonight (Thursday) was very believeable once the switch was turned on. That tongue action was frightening! He really acted as if he were being fried! It goes without saying the people running the front for tickets and security were friendly as well. The only bummer was when we came around the x-ray area there were 2 girls at the end just talking and it appeared they were not expecting us. They screamed as if we scared them. Only moments later we found them caged asking us to help free them but by then it was too late it simply wasn't believable. It appears they were both "plants" only they failed to be successful because they were both too busy chit chatting instead of doing their jobs effectively. Shame Shame on you both. All in all it was a FABULOUSLY SCARY and ORIGINAL HAUNT! The absolute best in long island. Congratulations! I will certainly visit again next Thursday because it was just that Darn Great!

Like i read on here, all inside are set ups that have you screaming or laughing, a lot! Very few to no manufactured halloween store scares, no dumb get ups, or make up. It's a spooky setting to begin with. Not a warehouse, they have a real haunted barn with a story. Its long. Not too pricey and there isn't one like it in the area. Both years have been great.. I'm definitely going back for their full opening, I cant wait to see what new things they have, although I don't know how it can get much better. No joke several people in my group were crying during, and well after the haunted house walk which took us close to 35-40 minutes (FOR 10 BUCKS!), and one woman who walked with us literally couldn't stand by the end. We were all laughing at each other by the time we got out. So many good scares. so much misdirection, and so many unique things that I've never seen at any haunted houses (and I go to all of them all over the country) this is my new favorite local haunted house! I went the first weekend it opened, and it was still about an hour wait. Th ticket booth was tucked in the corner, and I had to ask several times to find it. They had warm drinks avaliable, which was nice. With the hype about it, I was already pretty nervous. The story however was looped, and it felt a little awkward more than scary when you walked in to hear it. They had the story posted up, but the font was so tiny and because it was right before you went in, you didn't get to read it. Going through it, there;s a lot of steps up and down. You get cast in darkness, you see different sights. I think they did a really good job. It was easy to sneak up and scare my friends while on the group ghost tour. I only wish it was a little less busy, because you go in pretty big groups. If you went with only yours friends, it'd be a bit more spooky.

like the other posters I just read, i thought the whole thing was really done well. great theme. the actors are better than usual, they have scares everywhere and unique set ups, two real theaters, two mazes, one in this wooded location. the bus was freaky. the girls were too scared to finish. they grabbed onto us and looked down near the end to get thru it. our trip through was somewhere between 15-20 minutes. there was a very short wait, but since it's new, that may change once word gets out. plenty of parking, definitely worth the trip, and a great price. we may go again halloween weekend.
New Favorite!

I go to haunted houses every year with my step dad, and I think this is my favorite one so far! I had never been to this one before but it was defiantly worth it. All the haunted house recently have been all the same robotic stuff which gateway had none of.All the actors were truly creepy and really good. It was outside and inside with so many cool hallways and passage ways. Probably not like anything you've ever been to. Scary on both levels, for people who like the BOO factor or the truly creepy stuff. One girl who was in our group was crying in the corner! will DEFF go again, and bring all my friends.
Outstanding!

Gateway's Haunted Playhouse of Horrors was outstanding. The actors working throughout the house were extremely dedicated and refused to get discouraged until we were running scared from their room. I highly recommend this house. I was screaming until the very end. Gateway's price was much cheaper compared to other houses and the staff worked hard to get us into the trail as fast as possible. This is definitely a place you want to go!
Definetly worth your time and money!

10/17/2009 - gateway's haunted playhouse was extremely well done -- great scenes throughout the playhouse, no boring animatronics, good actors who didn't overdo it, and overall it was very unique compared to others I've been to. For those who have been to some others on LI, this was 10 times better than Bayville scream park, blew away Mills Pond house of horrors, and 100 times better than the Schmitt's farm corn "maze" (don't know about the Schmitt's haunted house though, I didn't go through it after the corn maze). In terms of how scary it was, it depends on the type of person you are - I find it all to be entertaining, rarely do they get me to jump etc, so I liked it just because of how well it was done. My sister and my fiance were screaming the whole way through though. It's not just the "boo!" parts that were good, but the unique scenes of grotesque murder, twisted mad scientists, etc, they just did a really good job. On top of that the price was better than many others and there was absolutely no line, although maybe we were just lucky. Overall the whole thing was very impressive, especially in comparison to the other hyped up boring ones I've been to over the past few years.
